I had been taking lessons from Kirsten for several years before buying a
"project" mare to train and resell. She was very young and green. Riding her was
like riding a drunk but figured she just needed to learn to follow my focus, but
instead she became more irritable the more I worked with her. She started
rearing, aiming kicks toward me, and doing this buck with a twist thing on-line
and pinning her ears and crow hopping under saddle. Kirsten was able to show me
this apparent aggressive behavior was actually a result of her being unconfident
and unbalanced. Now I have a very athletic and playful mare who is rather
enjoyable to ride, although still green. I would have never thought she would
turn into the floppy-eared, relaxed mare I now have to ride.
